Ethics in Business & Community: Year Seven

Every year we have the wonderful opportunity to honor the wonderful businesses, nonprofits, and people in our community who are truly setting the bar in their fields. The 11th Annual Ethics in Business and Community awards is around the corner, and we are continuing to share in the weeks leading up about the recipients of our previous years. Today we want to highlight those who were honored during our 7thannual awards, which were held in 2009. Awards were given in the following categories:

Business
Centex Homes – Reliably built, smartly designed and affordable, Centex homes bring the pride of home ownership to value-conscious buyers in 20 states. As the leading brand for value-conscious homebuyers looking for just the right home, Centex balances affordability with unique form and function leading to better living.

Nonprofit
Capital Idea – Created through the efforts of Austin Interfaith and the Central Texas business community, Capital IDEA funds qualified participants’ tuition, books and childcare and works with them to find employment with good salaries, benefits and opportunity for career growth. Capital IDEA works with workforce partners to identify new career-driven curriculum needed to properly educate the next generation of workers.

Individual
Wes Peoples – Founder and president of  Wes Peoples Homes, Wes has over 31 years of experience in community building and has served Austin for the past 18+ years in many different non-profit capacities. Wes is a graduate of Texas Lutheran College, has built over 5,000 homes in three Texas cities and five states. He began his home building career in Houston with NPC, was a VP at NVR in charge of the Midwestern U.S. Operations, was a founding partner in Wilshire Homes, served as President of Hammonds Homes, and lead Meritage Corporation/Monterey Homes. He is passionate in his belief that a home is important to the fabric of daily life and that homeownership promotes a sense of self-worth, fairness and dignity.

RecognizeGood: THE Foundation (commonly known as simply RecognizeGood) is a local nonprofit that provides a means for individuals, businesses and other nonprofits to illuminate selfless volunteers, charitable acts and community service throughout the greater Austin area. There are several active RecognizeGood programs that work toward this mission from different angles, but the common theme is simple – the illumination of GOOD in our community.
