El Amistad Club, based in Round Rock and founded in 1968, is a 100% volunteer civic organization that dedicates itself to recognizing veterans, promoting Hispanic cultural awareness, and providing college scholarships for area students. Gordon began volunteering with El Amistad in 1977, and has served a total of nine terms as the club’s president. In the mid-1980s, Gordon assumed the responsibilities of Scholarship Chairman, coordinating El Amistad’s massive scholarship program. In addition to his service with El Amistad, Gordon is also a cancer survivor and has served as Board President of LifeSteps Council on Alcohol and Drugs since 2005. He was instrumental in the creation and funding of the Neighborhood Conference Committee (NCC) in Round Rock, Taylor and Georgetown.

As a 2015 Legend, Gordon is now eligible to participate in RecognizeGood’s Say Thanks Austin campaign, an annual event which presents the Austin area with a unique opportunity to say “thank you” to a group of remarkable individuals who contribute their time and talents to our community. The participant with the most Thank You votes receives a pay-it-forward donation of $10,000 to the nonprofit of their choice.
